Would you believe that the people whose internet access I have been ruthlessly pilfering have been so inconsiderate as to move out, taking their lovely, lovely bandwidth with them?

Those bastards.

This means that I actually have no access to the internet whatsoever, due to the above and also due to my workplace being so 'antique' that the computers would spontaneously explode if you looked at them sideways and said 'INTERNET' under your breath. I am at an internet cafe. It is full of backpackers and the like.

Please excuse my temporary absence. I shall return shortly.

Yikes - sounds horrible

How rude of those people to move too - they should have more respect for bandwidth pilferers

My ex used to take his laptop and sit on a bench outside an office building that hadn't properly secured their wireless.

Internet cafes are terrible aren't they? Please pity us poor people (and yes, one or 2 backpackers can be people too) who have to use them all the time :(

Greg, I agree completely. And it wasn't just us - there was at least six others pilfering it, too. And what are they doing now? Probably forced into paying their own way, like me. Despicable behaviour.

Ellie, John does exactly the same thing now! He's found a bus stop in an industrial area and sits there, e-mailing and smoking. He looks like a right nutter and gets peculiar looks from everybody. I refuse to do it. And as for internet cafes, I had my fair share of those when I was doing the backpacking business too, and I'd be happy if I never have to set foot in one again. I vividly remember accidentally searching for something that brought up loads of pornography and having everybody think I was a complete pervert.

That seems to happen quite a lot in my experience. Some people I'm sure must actually be looking up porn and are just lying about it when they're caught!
